The online world is full of smoke and mirrors

the world is full of smoke and mirrors

Feeling some big feelings today. Are you ready? Buckle up.

Next time you compare yourself to ANYONE and feel ANY form of imposter syndrome, remember this;

The world is full of smoke and mirrors.

Two exact same shops belonging to the same person offering the same services – the one with “the prettiest” and most extravagant fit out is, (more often than you think) often the least profitable one.

The guy you see on Instagram flying all over the world pretending to be a millionaire, posting photos of himself dining out with an oyster shucker in his own home…. His daughter slept in her filthy school uniform (that her grandparents had to buy for her because he doesn’t buy her shit) last night because he didn’t have pyjamas for her.

The family living week to week, forgoing all luxuries, never dining out, wearing second hand clothes, hiding behind the computer because they’ve got a sick child and an old messy house – they’re living on the bare minimum while they quietly pump every cent they have into building an online business they believe in – humbly and modestly.

The beautiful and confident girl that just went viral online and gained a tonnes of new followers and is smiling away looking like she’s killing it – she’s receiving the most hateful trolling messages you can imagine;

“You’re a fkn idiot”

“What’s wrong with your face”

“What kind of hybrid monster are you”

None of these stories are made up.

We look around and we don’t feel like we’re enough.

Not smart enough.

Not loud enough.

Not qualified enough.

Not social enough.

Not rich enough.

Let me tell you, you are bloody enough.

And next time you look around and what you see makes you feel less than that. Know this;

You don’t need the fanciest website or shop front to succeed.

You don’t need to be posting heavily filtered photos of yourself jet setting around the world 20 times a day to be happy and successful.

You don’t need to have a big following to be successful.

You don’t need a lot of bloody things to be successful.

Be yourself …… and remember; the world is full of smoke and mirrors.
