Why You Need Facebook For Your Business, No Matter Your Size

When I put my first business on Facebook, I felt like I had discovered a secret. Facebook was still a baby then and to be honest, no one was really doing it professionally yet. Although it only took about 5 minutes for you to catch up, there was a brief moment of simpler times and great rewards for effort (and $$$)

Things are different now. Social media management wouldn’t be a billion dollar industry if everyone was nailing their social media and loving their results. It’s the norm to see small business owners frustrated with Facebook, wondering “what exactly can it even do for my business?” and “do I even need it?”

Yes! Yes, you do need Facebook for your business.

But before I launch into one of the reasons why, know this: it’s not the be all and end all. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to take this on full speed. Doing anything is better than nothing. Even Facebook has reverted to conventional forms of advertising lately, it’s not the only way to reach your audience.

You’re right to find Facebook a challenge. First we have the battle of Facebook even showing our content to anyone. If it’s kind enough to do so then how do we make our audience stop and engage? The truth is, we are all getting lazier and lazier, barely taking a moment to hit the like button these days.

Which is why you need to realise there are many “unseen” benefits of Facebook. If you’re a small business owner, I want you to ask yourself – if your resume was out there for the world to see, would you be proud of it? Would you want us all to see? Because that’s what your Facebook Business page is.

Whether you realise it or not, if someone is referred to your business, whether it’s online or by word of mouth, they will go searching to check you out. They’ll want to see what others say about you, what your business looks like, and are you legit? Now if they come to your Facebook page and you don’t have a lot of followers – that’s ok! Because if you have compelling content, a handful of testimonials and a clear vision of who you are and what you do, this will check out
If your “resume” looks like you were abducted 3 years ago, or the details about who you are aren’t transparent, then I can assure you, your potential customer will run for the hills.

You don’t see people doing this, but I promise they are.

So that’s a hot tip from me to you for nothing. Although you need to know it’s not the only reason you need Facebook for your biz. There are a million other reasons, all of which require their own blog posts, however Facebook can:
  • Generate leads
  • Sales
  • Build customer relationships
  • Improve your brand awareness
  • Provide an opportunity to establish yourself as an authority or expert in your field
  • Showcase customer testimonials and case studies

But this post is for the real haters. Those of you who are looking to do the bare minimum and don’t want to invest your $$. If nothing else, know that your Facebook Business page is your online shop front.
