In the initial stages of creating B Directory we were able to quickly identify that majority of our small biz members shared a common mistake. They did not have a clear profile or visual of exactly who their dream customer might be.

One of the first things we did when starting B Directory was create a profile of our dream customer. Don’t worry, we get it’s hard to pick just one so that’s why we chose 3.


Why you need to know your dream customer?


Well if you don’t then it’s kinda like trying to be best friends with 50 people. You’ll spread yourself so think and become so exhausted and then totally drop the ball and let everyone down.

Don’t freak out, we’re not going to let that happen.

You have to know who you’re talking too, who your message is for. Otherwise how do you know what to say? How do you identify the needs of your customers?

Knowing your target customer enables you to develop precise and more effective marketing strategies that you can measure.


How to identify your dream customer


When we asked our members to create their customer profile we were still getting categorical responses. Such as “oh a woman, or a man, aged 40 – 50, working etc etc.” and this is ok and this definitely creates a marketing demographic but we want you to dig deeper. We want you to visualise looking your dream customer in the eye.

To help you along I’d like to introduce you to Bailey. Bailey is;

  • 29 years old gal
  • she is super friendly with a positive energy
  • she owns a cafe called the Pink Revolver
  • she started the cafe from scratch a year ago
  • no kids
  • she has a supportive fiancé
  • she puts her heart and soul into the business often working 6 days a week
  • she has great food at great prices and is “breaking even” financially
  • she would like to take her business to the next level but isn’t sure how

Bailey is one of our imaginary dream customers. We think of her whenever we’re trying to decide out how to get our message out.
