Yes, we know – it feels like there are a million social media platforms you “should be on” right now. Let it be said though that there is a time and place for everything, so if you’re not down with LinkedIn right now that’s ok – we will try and convince you another time. If you are into LinkedIn, we wanted to share an easy way to demonstrate your knowledge to your followers and start to build somewhat of a portfolio for your personal brand and business.
This can be done through publishing an article on LinkedIn “Pulse”, which is essentially LinkedIn’s blog. It’s a powerful tool to utilise, as LinkedIn (and other social platforms) love keeping users engaged on their sites, rather than sending them off to read external links…so work with what the platforms are encouraging for the moment, don’t fight it!
Anyone with an account on LinkedIn can publish articles on Pulse, so if you’re producing content for your business it’s a great idea to incorporate this platform into your marketing strategy. Naturally writing content that ties in with your overall business objectives and promotions will be of most benefit…but let’s not go into that too much right now, let’s look at how you get your content published in the first place.
How to Post an Article on LinkedIn
1. Log into your LinkedIn account.
2. When on the “home” feed, click on the “Write an article” button.
3. You will be taken into their publishing interface – now you can input your article.
a. Click “+” to add an image to the top (you don’t have to select a cover image, but it is recommended.
b. Click on “Headline” to enter your article headline
c. Start typing the content in the “Write Here” section
– Only basic formatting is provided, such as bold, italics, outbound links and headings.
4. At the bottom of your article, always enter a personal bio, with links back to your website and/or relevant places.
5. If the article was first published on your site or somewhere else, make mention of this in the article (at the bottom of the article is fine).
6. You can also reference or link to other articles you have published on LinkedIn to showcase your writing.
7. You can save the draft or click publish.
– Clicking publish will make the article public and visible on the LinkedIn feed.
– You will get the opportunity to write post copy to go with the article – if you don’t write any, it will just be shared to the main feed as an image and link.
There you have it – you’re now ready to publish your first article on LinkedIn! Why don’t you sit down now and have a think about some content you can create that either showcases your industry knowledge or demonstrates your business services. Now – get writing!
